Grandin Republic is a clearinghouse for information and ideas about start-up life and culture in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia.
Roanoke is the largest city in the Commonwealth west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. No, that isn’t saying a whole heck of a lot, but for the folks round here, it is the “big city.” Consequently – in tandem with its geographic proximity to a large research university, Virginia Tech – there is a modicum of start-up activity to be found in the Star City. I looked around for a good source of news about local tech start-ups, didn’t find one, and so started this blog to provide said service to others who might be looking.
I won’t pretend this is a news site. Hell…are you kidding me? No. Absolutely not. I am NOT a journalist; I can barely string two sentences together, and odds are good one of those two sentences will contain the word “fuck.” I work blue, y’all.
I also have a habit of posting music for no apparent reason.
Mostly, Grandin Republic is an experiment in community building. I like to think of it as avant nerd.
Please feel free to leave a comment on any of my “articles,” or find me on twitter: @grandinrepublic
And if you think there is a start-up story that deserves attention, please send along your idea.
